As you may have noticed, the blog posts are currently a bit few and far between. As the name of the blog suggests, the work on the house so far has been squeezed into every free hour in the evenings and weekends, which hasn't left much time for documentation (I'm hoping to get caught up soon!). Therefore, there are still plenty of stories to share, such as drywall repair and priming, plumbing, and pest control to name a few. However, this past week I took my PTO to work on a project, and I am too excited to follow chronological order by waiting to post about it. More details on the project are to come in a later post, since I am in fact not done yet. But in the meantime, I am here to let you know that I have started laying the hardwood floors throughout! And let me tell you, when people say it is back-breaking work, they really mean it. I assumed it would be tiring and a lot of physical labor, but I wasn't fully prepared for the actual back pain that comes from doing 5,000 squats in a day, combined with deadlifting the flooring stapler. Today it reached the point where I actually couldn't tell if the pain was trying to alert me to a medical problem or was just "part of the process," so I unfortunately didn't hit my goal of where I wanted to be by now. But I'm still really happy with the results so far, and can't wait to see once it's completed. I'll be sure to show you the other rooms and how I was able to avoid thresholds and transitions most of the time (which really aren't my preference), but for now, here is what will be my bedroom.
PS: The most difficult part of this room may have been getting the 32" chair through the 28" door. I suppose the "two person lift" notice on the box was in fact more of an instruction rather than a suggestion.
Oh, and here is a photo of the bird who had made a nest with two eggs right outside the window before she was made aware of my plans to be slamming a pneumatic stapler directly adjacent for a couple of days straight. I actually tried to adjust my schedule around when she was there and was trying to sleep, but I don't think she saw it that way.
