Since the house was sold as-is, there was not a full record of what kind of condition the heating and air conditioning units were in (or any of the other utilities) at time of sale. The house has a generator, which is a cool bonus feature, and the seller actually provided documentation of a recent servicing - so that left the electrical, plumbing, and HVAC to address. As stated earlier, my major electrical concerns were the GFCIs, and those are now up-to-date. For HVAC, I had the team come out when it was a bit too cold to check the exterior air conditioning units, but they were able to make sure the furnaces were in proper working order (the house is split into two "climate zones," so there are doubles for the equipment). Luckily, an insane first gas bill tipped me off to a gas leak, so they were able to replace the gas control valve on one of the furnaces to swiftly take care of that. Additionally, I had them give the ducts a good scrubbing to help remove any smoke residue that may be lingering in there. While necessary, none of this work results in a visible change, so I decided to make an aesthetic upgrade while also removing any last remnants of smoke which may be pushed out of the ducts, by purchasing new supply and return registers. Even though I still need to address the wallpaper situation, these pops of white throughout the house are starting to make it feel just a little brighter! I also got some fresh, high-quality filters in the the return registers and furnace - below you'll see a "before" of what we found when the HVAC team was taking off the registers!
